theres no excuse for missing argentina v. germany. you have tivo tho, no?

since i wrote that ive read some about the games yesterday and there is a debate about the fairness of the handball penalty. i guess i wouldnt be opposed to awarding the team a goal if its clear that a handball prevented an obvious goal though it does remove that dramatic penalty kick which they will make nine times out of ten.

for whatever reason i find that act far less egregious than the flopping or even the constant grabbing in an effort to impede progress. probably since i didnt like it when it happened to me but also because its inadequately punished. whereas a handball like that almost always is properly remedied. also it is largely unpremeditated. but its true that the risk/reward certainly favors the offending squad. all they have to lose is that player for one game so, like i said, i would not be averse to a rule change. the only other downside is is that it gives the referees another opportunity to make the wrong call.
