How does it work? Was a puzzlement.

The axle is stationary relative to the forks. The engine moves around the axle using a set of gears and chains as the drive train. The engine is fixed relative to the rest of the wheel. Thus as the engine drives itself around the axle, the wheel rolls. Hope they counter-balance that engine carefully.

Many years ago, I put a number of miles on a Puch similar to the one below. Not a bad way to get around for short commutes. But due to it's looks, I almost got a ticket for riding a "motorcycle" in a bike lane.
