Joe Mckay will be re-enacting the ref role during More Than Super, a simultaneous improved version of the Superbowl today from an old Synagogue in Ridgewood, Queens. Produced by Matt Freedman and Jude Tallichet.

We shall watch it live and then never speak of it again

This is a tad dire.

Field goal!! Jude just scored a field goal.

The sonic youth-ish version of the national anthem was great.

VB just got back from the kitchen where the "real" game is on tv. he says their video is slicker.

VB also says that organized sports are stupid.

best half-time show ever. jugglers! (waiting for the Who on the edges of our seats)
- sally mckay 2-07-2010 7:52 pm

okay that (Who) was pretty well perfect (good timing too, we got to see both Whos). Also we liked that sculptor with the inflatable poo thingy. Gif tribute pending.

only in Canada would they advertise figure skating during the superbowl. ( we are now watching both games side by side. The cat likes the art game better but that's mostly because the laptop is on her chair).

I have to confess that after half-time I thought they'd pack it in and just dissemble into a party. There is some good duration/endurance/rigor going on in this performance party. Also, excellent timing, planning, HR and stage direction. Ambitious!

(my Mom is trying to teach me the rules of football).
- sally mckay 2-07-2010 9:19 pm

I found the initial part of the performance a bit hard to watch.
- L.M. 2-07-2010 9:36 pm

OMG Matt won. I like Matt a lot, but my money was on Jude.

L.M., you are not the target demographic for performance art. But I know what you mean. However, I also think football is a bit hard to watch, as in... this is the first time I can remember I ever in my life watched the whole superbowl.

uberball

Your mom and the cat seem to have a special way of communicating.

Yeah, the start could have used some polish and oomph. the crowd was a little leery at that point. We needed football enthusiasm and they met us with art audience trepidation. Not that I too wouldn't have been nervous, god knows.
In our defense, have you ever watched the start of a the Superbowl? The coin toss is booooring. Still, having done it once now I know what we could have done in the beginning.
The anthem was by Louis Schwadron formerly of Polyphonic Spree

I though it was really good too.

Are you planning to do the Olympics?

Joe makes a good point about the art crowd problem, that was exactly what bugged me at the beginning.

Note: suggest if you do this same sort of thing again, get a white-noise generator (like from an analog synthesizer) and assign someone to be the "crowd", to crank up the background noise when something dramatic happens.

I noticed that the pros on television had a constant low-level crowd-noise mix blended into the audio feed to fill-out the sound.

nice idea VB via SM. To be honest, its hard to get football fans to come to the game because they want to actually watch the game, and it's hard to get this crowd to act like football fans because if they were, they would be watching the game with those other people. Maybe we need a room for people who are watching the "real" game, and we mike them for noise sound.

new
maybe you just need a bigger screen tvs showing the 'real' game so fans can watch both at once. Like a date movie that has car-chases and wedding scenes. Okay maybe not.

I agree (with the last sentence).

- JOester (guest) 2-09-2010 9:21 pm

I'll steal the idea then. Every time I exhibit art video, I'll have a TV turned to a sports station playing in the gallery.
