nice place. i lived in hartford for four years but never visited. twain didnt seem very relevant then.

"hmm. should we get a case of busch beer and go fly cheap plastic kites in the quad or visit the mark twain house? theyve got tiffany glass and ornate carved ballustrades? but how often does an eight dollar case of beer come along?"

  • I went there when I had inlaws locally. Stunning place. They even had the sole remaining compulator (the investment machine of his financial demise). Also on hand (unfortunately with no linkable likeness on the net) was an 8x10" Currier and Ives print titled "Life and Death". When viewed closely it appeared to be two children framed by a stone wall window. When viewed from afar it read as a human skull. This ditty hung on the 3 daughters bed room wall and modern copies were available at the gift shop. It speaks to the sorrow he endured outliving all but one of his immediate relations (including Clemens the man). Needless to say I too just caught the KB pbs (phoned in) documentary.
