I think she's great. I only know her from photos and reading--I never watched her show. I found some of her paintings online (I think on a website for the show). They were about as primitive as it gets but I liked them. I was rooting for her to take it all from "the heirs," just because she was such a babe.

Wow, you broke the news to me before the Drudge Report did.

I wanted her to get the big bucks too. (I aways wondered where her accent came from, what could be heard of it from the recent slurring, didn't know she was a Texan)

Vickie Lynn Hogan--I think from East Texas, or possibly Dallas. I hope this means the old man's money will go to her poodle.

Houston. Also learned from IMDb:

Crowned Miss Republic of Cuervo Gold, a title she retained for one year. She was one of 8 contestants, but won because "her party spirit won out." [28 April 1998]

I knew there was an East Texas connection--she was born in Mexia (pronounced mah-HEY-ah), about 40 miles east of Waco.

As for her poodle--didn't realize she'd had a second child.

The wikipedia article is getting updated fast:

Though her [pregnancy] announcement did not provide any details, in an interview with Larry King on CNN's Larry King Live, Smith's longtime personal attorney Howard K. Stern said that he had loved her for quite some time and they were confident he fathered the baby because of the timing of the pregnancy.[16] However, her ex-boyfriend, entertainment photojournalist Larry Birkhead, steadfastly maintained his contention that he is the baby's father and filed a lawsuit to challenge paternity.[17]

Smith's daughter, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, was born September 7, 2006, at Doctors Hospital in Nassau, Bahamas. The Bahamian birth certificate records the father as Howard K. Stern.[18]

A judge in the United States ordered that DNA tests be performed to determine who is the biological father of Dannielynn. Following Anna's death, Debra Opri, the lawyer of Larry Birkhead, asked for a DNA sample to be taken from the corpse. An action that outraged Smith's lawyer, Ron Rale, who called it "the lowest form of behaviour I've ever heard of."

the paternity issue had been going on for a while but ANS apparently was bucking testing. trying to stymie the process knowing the legal ramifications of what those results would be.

Cintra Wilson in Salon:

What needs saying -- what it seems nobody has yet said -- is that when she was able to suppress her demons enough to pull herself together and look her best, she was fabulously gorgeous. Numerous red-carpet moments, the footage of which we now run over and over again like a televised rosary in order to understand her death, reveal this. Anna Nicole was a star because she possessed an unusually large amount of beauty. At her best, she didn't evoke Marilyn Monroe so much as Anita Ekberg in "La Dolce Vita" -- the strapless black dress, mounds of white flesh, piles of blond hair. She was indelicate, but an unstable element nonetheless -- not so much a candle in the wind as a bonfire in a hailstorm. But the real similarity between Anna Nicole and Marilyn was their shimmering tension -- an unsettlingly powerful physical beauty, collapsing irresistibly in real time beneath the frailties of its hostess. She was entropy porn at its finest.

Our fascinated gaze was her real addiction -- and the humiliating media tractor pull between our disgust and our attraction for her was, in all likelihood, both her lover and her murderer. Fame, the only chemotherapy available for the desperate toxicity of narcissism, proves once again that it is deadly enough in its own right to be avoided.

NASSAU (April 10) - Anna Nicole Smith 's former boyfriend Larry Birkhead said Tuesday that DNA tests have proven he is the father of her infant daughter.

Birkhead emerged from a closed court hearing to announce the results. Smith's companion, Howard K. Stern, has been caring for the girl, Dannielynn, who could inherit a fortune in the wake of her mother's February death.
