New work in my subterranean painting studio. Cadmium red medium oil, (Venetian red) gesso and sizing on woven 3 1/2" wide jute webbing over wooden stretchers. 49" x 49"
Looks good, kind of a readymade. Judd used cad red light in his early work, didn't he? I don't think cad red medium or light is used much straight out of the tube.
Yes he did use cad red light. I like that it's aka vermillion with those associations as well. Will post some more paintings later.
black and white prototype. 30" x 30". black gesso on pre primed canvas. overlapping pieces sliced with mat knife and woven back together for irregular checker pattern.
Nice. Was the slicing and weaving difficult? Seems like canvas might fight the straight line.
Surprising how well it went. The canvas was cheep-o Fredericks brand, so very light material. The bands don't fight since they are opposed. Snugs up nice w just a little over/under gapping. Side by sides are real tight. I measured and marked where I wanted the widths to be. Then sliced with a fresh bladed utility knife and a t-square. It was based on a sketch I had made and found to be successful, then I enlarged it. I think this would be best at about 5' x 5' with a nicer quality fine weave pre primed linen.
detail of b and w prototype painting. ree commented the painting looks "HD" in real life due to physical detail
reveal under up close inspection.
(untitled) cad red 14" x 14"

(prototype) cad red 49" x 49"
GREAT!!!!
Super nice. The jute edge is a great detail.
Thanks Steve. Thanks skinny. It's great to have a working studio.
