My art school had north-facing clear stories on the top floor for the painting, drawing and life-drawing studios.  Once the college moved out the art museum expanded into the old school and covered them up. Great light for making art but damaging to the work in the long run.  The studios didn't make for a very good art viewing space either. It would have been nice if the space could have been rented out to artists or even used for a children's art school. C'est la vie.
