May have been in Popular Science circa 1966 that I saw a "range extender" for a pure electric car: a generator on a trailer. Ergo, add a trailer hitch, and Tesla has a range extender.
Given the price of the Tesla, the typical owner will have other cars/planes for longer trips. So the point is somewhat moot.
