I'm just dj who loves. drum and bass. Anyway, thanks to mark for the comment on the music. I've definitely learned a lot in the last six months. I'm still working (somewhat reluctantly) on song structure--this piece was anti-structure, or anti-development, in that the "variations on a single note" are a minimalist strategy at odds with the supposed driving forward momentum of this type of tune. I'm of two minds about whether to do a "real" drum and bass tune at this late stage, with drop-outs, bridges, "building" to a conclusion--all that dancefloor lore. I kind of hate the cliches and am more interested in the "art" side of making music.
