Assuming this isn't a hoax about Susan Sontag writing lyrics for Fischerspooner, it should be noted that the words were a rather pale retread of Fear's "Let's Have a War" ("let's have a war/jack up the Dow Jones...let's have a war/so you can go and die, etc") from 1982 or so. May she rest in peace but this had to be said.

If it's a hoax, it's not a hoax from me. I did check their (lame) site, and she was listed as a co-author. I was pretty young in 1982, but, though it pains me to say so, I do agree that her lyrics were on the weak side. Not as weak as the Fischerspooner guy refusing to say "war" though...

Fear's appearance on Saturday Night Live in the early 80s pretty much introduced moshing to the nation. Except back then it was called "slam dancing." Fischerspooner (and electroclash) never had their "sweeping the nation" moment (that I'm aware of), despite the industry throwing some bucks at the trend. Possibly because FS's music is primarily a nostalgia act (other things under the 'clash umbrella are less so). I actually like some of the Fischerspooner songs I have on vinyl--I first heard them through the dj/electronic music scene rather than Gavin Brown's Enterprise/Artforum so I didn't have the performance art factor to deal with.
