NY Arts Interview

The interview Aaron Yassin did with me in NY Arts magazine, linked to here a few weeks back, is now on the newsstands in their Sept./Oct. print edition. The photo above is a very subtle bit of personal horn-blowing. To some extent the text is an attempt to legitimize working with the computer to my brethren in the gallery world; that quest seems totally doomed if you read something like the profile of dealer Leo Koenig in the current New Yorker. It's all about painting with brushes ad nauseum (and theory? forget it), and could have been written about the neo-expressionist hothouse environment of 25 years ago.

Congrats. I've seen you draw with a mouse. I don't think people get that you are creating art the old fashioned way, with new tools.

Congrats, too!

Tom the Curser. From a distance: from this point (few thousand miles away) I see the world of J the D.

The medium can be the message, but it can also just be a delivery system for the content. italics

I think medium/message/content is still wound together if you want to do away with the sound of bound.
Bound is, in a way, nice way of expressing two things:

attraction

and

necessity

I think all good art/life is made this way.

geez I should read what I write before hitting go. Sorry Tom I meant 'cursor'.

Right on Tom!

I like that you're holding the magazine open with the corner of your keyboard. A lesser man might think that was just a coincidence, but I see it for what it truly is.
Looks really good Tom.

The picture looks composed but I swear I just cleared a space on my work table and used the first thing at hand to prop open the mag.

You mean the firewire audio interface manual was just sitting there? There's a lot of content around the content that's pretty great.
- joester 10-21-2005 10:19 pm

I swear to you every bit of it was exactly as it was. The fact that I can't prove it is one those problems with photography Susan Sontag was always talking about.
