Oil, That Is

I think it was degenerate gambler Bill Bennett that came up with the idea that conservative types should flash the "purple finger" on the eve of the latest "no really this is the turning point" electoral whatever in Iraq. I redid the picture in Photoshop, and it may seem cynical, but it's not one-tenth as cynical as the racially prejudiced Republicans pretending they give a shit what happens to people in that part of the world. We've spent close to a half trillion dollars that could have gone to help Katrina victims, fund decent health care, improve public schools... All for an "experiment in democracy" that Bush gave us as the reason we invaded Iraq only after weapons of mass destruction failed to turn up. It's about controlling the Middle East, you chumps.

Since the link won't last long, what Joseph has posted is a government propaganda slideshow put on by the NY Times showing lots of people dipping purple fingers. Well, it better have gone well in our 51st state, since we payed close to A HALF TRILLION FUCKING DOLLARS FOR IT!

For a reality check, Juan Cole has some thoughts on how an election can go smoothly while bombs continue to rock a country for years. His example is the Irish Republican Army.

One thing I find weird is that so-called conservatives support this hugely expensive nation-building. Conservatism used to mean isolationism and avoiding costly social experiments. What it comes down to is "conservatism" is now the Cult of George Bush. Whatever he does, no matter how stupid or wasteful, is OK to this group.

"What it comes down to is "conservatism" is now the Cult of George Bush. Whatever he does, no matter how stupid or wasteful, is OK to this group"
That's because most of them are "End-Timers", not really "conservatives"... they think it is their Christian duty to bring about "The Apocalypse" & "The Battle of Armageddon", which will lead up to the Second Coming of Jesus and his Thousand-Year Reign on Earth from His Holy Throne in Jerusalem.
The so-called conservative "Christian End-Timers" also pretend to support The State of Israel and Jewish people, but in reality they want nothing less than the total destruction of Judaism, because in the "End-Timer" timeline, 2/3rds of all Jewish people are killed by The Anti-Christ, and the remaining 1/3rd of them convert to Christianity...
That's quite a "Final Solution", and they definitely believe that the "Prophecy" will not "be fulfilled" unless all those Jews die.
They are also so "stupid and wasteful" because they believe that the WORSE things get here on Earth, the FASTER Jesus will come back. At the End-Timer high-school I had to attend they told us that any kind of Environmental movement or activism is "of the Devil", because this world is a temporary sinful place and it belongs to Satan anyways, so it is the duty of the good Christian to help speed things on a bit by screwing up the envrionment, (think James Watt).
They also are have an extreme aversion to peace talks or truces of any kind, because they believe that "there will always be more and more war until Jesus comes back", thus any move towards peace is seen as "against God's Plan"... that's why these sick creeps love war so much.

"Cult of Bush" -- I caught a few minutes of Limbaugh this AM. While Limbaugh fights for his own personal privacy in the Hillbilly Heroin case, he's eager to defend Bush's invasion of other people's privacy through the offices of the NSA. It's not about principals. It seems to even transcend party. It's about defending Bush against all comers.

However, 'merkans love to tear down some of their heroes. So a day of reckoning may be in his future.
