Steve MacDonald - Bay Crossing

"Bay Crossing" - a film about crossing the San Francisco bay in a homemade rowboat, by Steve MacDonald. The voiceover consists of droll recordings of MacDonald calling around to various public safety officials trying to figure out what permits he needs and "how safe it is." [YouTube]

Funny, yet foreboding.

How safe? In his case, not very. That is one slow boat, and the container ships that cross the bay move pretty quick. And being on the bay at twilight, with no lights? Whack. I do have to admire the tenacity.

It made me look up the regulations. My new canoe won't need registration unless (until?) I equip it with a sail. Human powered craft, no matter how big, slip through the cracks.
