After looking at the homepage, if I was a "tenured professor", I'd just throw away my gear and go freelance. That site's brilliant, wicked and hilarious.
A friend lent me Edward Said's Representations of the Intellectual, his BBC lectures, which I'm reading. It was written before the Net and blogging brought "his" type of intellectual to the forefront. "Amateur," unaffiliated, not sucking up to anyone. I think he'd be happy with the kind of work that's out there.
I remember reading an interview with Stan Brakhage, about advocating the amateur
his work, he argued, was about not apologizing for what might otherwise be considered "mistakes," classified as such by aspiring-to-hollywood home videographers
not exactly related to this wonderful image treasury! but worth noting
what would a "tenured professor's" gear be? :)
I imagine it would be just a cabin, a jug and some overalls
...and a volvo.
