"Abstract Thinking (Photons)" [mp3 removed]

Another variation of this piece, incorporating a special effect sound from, let's just say, a popular televised science fiction drama. There is now an added "tripped out" middle section with some layered sputtering LFO noise and a snare run through an effect-pedal octave sequence.

Update: Added a new synth part to this. I think I'm still working on it (see comments).

Update 2: the piece is pulled for further tinkering. When it rises Phoenix-like it will probably have a new title.

Update 3: Or not. I put it back up, with the original, underlying synth tracks all sliced up and made to obey the meter.

opening is hilarious. do you mean for the downbeat to be so undefined in the, shall we say, A section? when A' comes in, bout 30 secs into the song, downbeat becomes more easily identified and those distorted 808 hihats & cowbells somehow sound tasty and raw even tho they're mixed pretty far back.
the tripped-out section sounds a bit less trippy than i expected and more "funky" - those flanged violin stab-sounding things seem swung and the clap is very clear - but maybe it's the pot in london.
why does A section return after the trippy section? because i'm wondering about the vagueness of the downbeat in A i don't feel a sense of resolution when it comes back at the end.

I saw this comment after I had posted a revised version of the piece (just now). Thanks for the feedback. I added a new synth part that I hoped would bridge some of the disjointedness and make the rhythm clearer as well.
I don't think it's quite there. I wanted the piece to be a *bit* asynchronous, just to give it a looser feel--the earliest parts I recorded "live" are not in tight sync with the percussion I added later.
It was too loose though. It's tighter now but Section A still needs some work, I think. I'm really happy with the trippy/funky section and would almost like to get rid of the rest and start with that.

i think the new synth line makes A stronger on its own and it locks the percussion a bit to make a rhythmic bridge to the trippy part, but at the same time it kinda makes A clash with the trippy part even more because A is now even busier. i've got one idea to tie it all up, but it involves vocals, so i'll do a version myself and if it's not too awful i'll send it to you tomorrow.
when the trippy part gets going and the drums drop [1:17] it sounds really really tuff. definitely could make a new tune based on that bit.

I'm curious to hear your idea.
Mine (after some thought) is to remove the original file (Abstract Thinking Quiet) that all this other stuff was gradually built up around, and hear what it (the stuff) sounds like.
Then write some connective tissue including probably pieces of the original file looped and put into tighter sync with the new material, including that middle bit.
I'm not really sure how it got so out of sync--the "loud" version was very tight.
I think this will work, though.

yeah i think that would work nicely.
my idea was to recite your MOMA rant through a rat pedal on top of the whole thing. pry have to put this off till the weekend tho because of scheduling conflicts.

Well, if you're going to do that please make it as incomprehensible as possible. The art world deserves a rant but not a rap.

i was gonna go for a garrison keillor impersonation but looks like it'll have to wait.
