I like how the average TFT screen is not able to cope with such animations.

Here we go again--why Tom's art fails on this or that system.
I have LCD flatscreens on my laptop and desktop--don't know if they're TFT.
What is happening with it on your screen?
It's supposed to be sort of slow and jerky because there are only 8 frames and the transitions aren't smooth.

I like this one a lot. The scaled up version has a nice "fat pixel" feel to it. It's "chunky" on multiple levels -- the jerky motion, the rough lines, the dither splatters.

Thanks, Mark. I thought it would be more interesting bigger because you could see the different dot patterns employed by MSPaint and Paintbrush to simulate grays.
I know Safari will fuzz it out (unless I resize it frame by frame and remake the GIF, which will make it a larger file size). Not sure what's happening with drx's screen.

Nice one.
On my machine it looks identical resolution-wise in Safari and Explorer. It's slightly slower in Safari, thus slighrtly jerkier.

1.5 seconds per cycle in Explorer, 2 seconds in Safari. On a high speed connection

Sorry mate, some clearance:

I have a TFT monitor that has a low change rate. Dunno how it's properly called in English, it's about the time a pixel needs to change from one color to another. My screen takes long. So it's not really good to play Quake Arena with this screen. And a rough change from black to white (where all RGB components have to change) takes the longest time. So i can see some subtle shadows when i watch the blown up GIF for some time.

But probably most people wouldn't, i am famous for noticing the difference between 60 Hz and 61 Hz CRT refresh rates and complaining endlessly about it.

You GIF is far from not working. Actually i love such effects that remind me of the "mechanics".

My notebook that has trashy colors and view angle doesn't make these shadows, must be a faster TFT.

Thanks, drx--I was kidding because I get so many reports about my GIF pieces not "working" on various browsers, RSS readers, etc.

I am actually very happy if the GIF exposes some "glitch" calls attention to some bug or feature in the receiving hardware and software.

It's always a fine line between wanting these things to be critical and also work somewhat in the way they were intended.

That's why I've decided to do more "field testing" on the page and would appreciate any feedback someone has a moment to give.
