Never heard of that one. I thought the stuff was called "sleep" (wipe the sleep from your eyes), but I guess that's metaphoric. There's also "gunk", "scutt", etc. Checking Google, I find that the word "ground" gets misspelled more often than you'd think. Did turn up this page on tree climbing in Japan though…
