wow, dave's getting daring. Can't wait to hear the outcome of this one (and I hope it doesn't involve an RIAA holding cell.)

  • whats the point of having cd burners such as the phillips audio cd burner and market them to make audio cds and not expect that people will give away cds. i can respect the reselling point but giving it away?? i would be more concerned with napster and its ilk. but unfortunately the riaa have the time and money to cow everyone.

  • yeah, obviously nobody is going to come after you for that, but technically it is illegal. (Remember, the RIAA always sees every pirated copy as a lost sale - and therefore a criminal act.) Possibly just having your own cd's stored as mp3's on your own hard drive could be construed as illegal (although, again, I don't think anyone would pick this fight.) They are definitely not happy about napster. And speaking of which, have you heard about wrapster? It allows napster users to share files other than mp3's, like videos (or pirated software, or porn... hey, sounds like hotline.) Anyway, when do I get my catpower disc, my name is Ivan and I'm, uh.... living at jim's temporarily, so just send it there.
