I didn't watch Bush tonight, but have been reading blogger's accounts. Apparently he got a softball question about whether he could ever admit a mistake and I guess he said he could (haven't seen a transcript yet). I don't believe it--it's something in his nature that won't let him, like that time he froze because he couldn't correctly say the words of the adage that ends with "Shame on me." And here's Calpundit on his performance tonight (someone must have asked him the same question again, a trickier way):
9:25 — "What's the biggest mistake you made after 9/11?" Bush just froze. He couldn't answer for literally 30 seconds. "I can't come up with something under the pressure of the press conference."
Wow. That would be almost sad if he wasn't so dangerous.

I couldn't watch it, but followed the dKos threads as they unfolded. An interesting way of following press conference. I also checked out L1ttle Gr33n F00tballs. Apparently some other dude named Bush was giving a press conference in an alternate universe.

One of the ideas I've been pushing is that these alleged press conferences are scripted events. In his incoherent answer to that question, the resident actually lamented that he had not received a written question ahead of time.

What a putz!

"Teacher, why can't I have a 'take home' exam? Mommy says I'm not quick on my feet."

From the WBAY-TV website (Green Bay WI):

Bush says he's `confident' he's made mistakes, but can't think of any

President Bush says he may have made mistakes in the war on terror -- but he can't think of any right now.

In response to a reporter's question, Bush said he's sure "historians will look back" and say "he could have done it better this way or that way."

The president said in hindsight, he would have gone into Afghanistan the same way, and still would have called on the world to deal with Saddam Hussein.

Bush said he's "confident" he's made mistakes -- he just can't up with any during his news conference.

i keep trying to respond and then erasing it. he really is pathetic at times. he is the ultimate c student padding out his oral report by stringing together what bits of information he gleaned from his late night cramming sessions. and whenever hes stumped he tries to joke his way out of the situation.

"now that ones a thinker, and it wasnt on biffs test from last semester. whos in charge of the curriculum? dont they know about the importance of "staying the course." how does a new wing on the library sound, professor? let me get my checkbook. lets call it grade relief."
why the a student grinds in the press corp are complicit with the dumb show is beyond me. i guess membership really does have its priveleges.

C-student meme ...

"But everyone else thought Saddam had WMDs."

Riiiiight. In matters of national security we're GRADING ON A CURVE. Even though he got the answers wrong, let's give Georgie a "B" so he'll feel better.
