Classic Cheney takedown from Billmon:

There's been speculation that the Veep's surliness, like his current neoconservative extremism, is a byproduct of his bypass surgery, which has been known to induce dramatic personality changes in the patient (turning him or her into a "pump head," to use the vernacular.)

Personally, I doubt it - the heart doesn't seem to have ever been a particularly important organ in Cheney's psychology. (A man who produces an offspring nine months and one day after learning that only fathers will qualify for a student draft deferment can't exactly be called someone who is ruled by his emotions.)

Hey, if it feels good, Dick, do it.

I wish I could see the interview where the Irish reporter kept asking Bush follow-up questions and he got testy because he wanted to get back to the scripted BS about how much people love freedom. It's a .smil file, which none of my media players recognizes.

That's Real Media format. But I can't get it to play either. Here's the transcript. What an annoying moron.

The .smil is just a container with information on where the stream is. It opens my Real Player, but then nothing happens. So I opened up the .smil file in a text editor and extracted the stream location by hand:

rtsp://streaming2.rte.ie/2004/0624/primetime56.rm

If you open Real Player, choose Open Location... from the file menu, and then paste that rtsp:// address into the location field it should work.

I'm still getting the notice from Real (after it tries to stream and auto-update) that says "there is no software update to support this content: RV40."

worked for me. do you have the most recent version of real?
- dave 6-29-2004 6:20 pm [add a comment]

Probably not. I forgot Jim said the newer version was less intrusive; guess I'll have to upgrade.

Works for me in 9.0. I think 10.0 is now out for Windows.

Here's an mp3 of the interview.

Mp3 link is fixed. Thanks Bill.

OK, thanks, I got Realplayer 10 and just listened to the interview. GWB's ignorance is matched only by his pushiness in making his non-points. He sounds like a drunk bar patron who's trying to drown out anyone who contradicts him. He's really embarrassing us abroad, even if his hick base here likes to hear him talk that way.

"if only we knew of a news organization that could ask hard questions." pathetic.

"'You ask the questions and I'll answer them,' Mr. Bush finally told Ms. Coleman..."

Finally? He said that about three times.

"Mr. Bush gave as good as he got..."

Yeah, if you call mindless alpha male shouting down of the interviewer "good."
