No doubt it was petty revenge, 'cause that's what Junior does, but another way to look at it is: the red states need the jobs because they are the welfare states, whereas the blues produce something and are more financially solid. Since the cold war's over and "terrorism" is only a military threat if we make it one (as in Iraq), military bases are mainly a way to prop up ailing local economies. Net gains in red states reflect the neediness of those hick populations.
