i dont think its a parody, in the american sense of the word. we do export tv culture though. japan just ups the ante.

closest thing on US TV is Distraction

some of the bits ...

- If you ring the buzzer you get hit on the head with an oversized mallet (or get shocked)
- they bring toilet stalls on stage, and people "ring the buzzer" by letting some wee loose
- leap frog with nudists -- through the blur I saw one contestant get slapped in the back of the head by another dudes sack

I saw a few episodes three years ago when it was new. I don't know if they've ratcheted up from pain, bodily functions and gratuitous scroti.
