I’m still recovering from a May Day marathon in Prospect Park, not to mention a turn through Owl’s Head in the neighborhood this morning, where it looked like a lot more birds were on the move than yesterday. To protect myself from the incredulous I got a new 12X image stabilized camera, which I am in the process of figuring out how to use. It’s possible to capture images of small songbirds, if you can manage to focus on them. Here are a few for May

Those are great, I'm finding it challenging to get good bird picks now that the birds are actually here. They seem to perch so high up or in the case of the thousand of finches back this year in those trees surrounding the bighouse, completely invisible, all thousand of them. I even sat up on the roof and took random shots into the leaves figuring I could crop and blow up and zoom in digitally with photo editing and just see one single bird but nada, not a single finch. Maybe I'll just stick to cats and flowers.

Not sure about the link, but... BLUE GROSBEAK

Blue Grosbeak, a Prospect rarity.

CATBIRD

Gray Catbird and White-throated Sparrow.

SOLITARY

Solitary Sandpiper.

PROTHO1

Star of the show was a Prothonotary Warbler. We saw lots of these "Golden Swamp Warblers" in Louisiana last year, but they're rare up here, and always an auspicious sign for Spring.

PROTHO2

PROTHO3

thanks! these are fabulous. I really love the catbird and sparrow shot. They look like they're forming some kind of alliance.
