Northern Goshawk, immature, in Prospect Park 1/19/08.

Hey, I can't find my cat. Has anybody seen my cat?

		Red Shouldered Hawk, Alex?

Absolutely. An adult, one of our best-looking hawks. Now could you work on finding a Black Vulture among those Turkeys?

No problem, it's that one just off center, third from the left.

This morning, same fence different hawk. I tried to sneak around the barn and come up on him for a better resolution shot and I looked up and he was in that tree, 20 feet in front of me. But shooting up into the morning sky what I gained in resolution I lost in exposure. It began flying around from tree to tree after that and while following it I scared up the red shoulder in a pine tree but he wasn't having any.

That’s a juvenile Red-shouldered. Other than Red-tailed it’s the main buteo hawk of the southeast US, present year-round. Watch for the translucent crescent near the wingtips when in flight.

		Almost but not quite.
