OOOUCHHH

i will never know what makes people do things like this.....than again i did take some great acid and went at mount lassen in birkenstocks in 1981, one of the 4 whom went almost died, we think the acid kept him alive as when he fell he didnt break many bones, dislocated both hips and both shoulders, he was in a blob and we scouped him up and off to a hospital.....i will never know what makes people do things like this

I've got a cousin who has summited Everest twice. He parlayed that into a motivational speaking career and is now a conservative member of legislature in Alberta. (shamefully, we do have some of those types in the family)

David had some video evidence that was used in this court case.

I have an armchair fascination with this stuff. Just re-watched some scenes from Touching the Void on Youtube. Awful. Yes. I do think the weird social ammorality of extreme mountain climbing is part of the appeal for some people. Everyone's literally clambering towards that sublime existential moment where one is just an animal struggling for survival on a rock face. It's so decadent and millenial. I love/hate it.
