4 to 6" of fluffy snow already. Rain switched to snow around 9 am. Branches are cracking off and falling on trees that have not yet dropped their leaves. A recipe for knocking out power lines.

what's happening, tri-state area?

We have many many tree limbs down. A thirty footer is leaning on the roof and will need to be cut out. Driveway probably blocked. About 10 - 12" snow on ground and other horizontal surfaces. Only lost power for about 20 mins. Sun up at 7 revealed clear cold day with tons of tree carnage. You could hear sharp cracks at the rate of a couple every minute all day long yesterday.

Does snow normally do so much damage to the trees up there? Sounds more like an ice storm.

Sorry Alex, I mean a glazing.

The storm came early. Before the first real freeze or frost. Many trees still had their leaves so ice and snow stuck to them so it built up an extra amount of weight because of that. IMHO. Fr us it was fluffy wet and heavy.
