now that the yankees plan to launch their own network theyll need some programming to fill the gap between the yankees nets and devils games. espn has a preview of possible shows.

Cute, but too nice. They'll probably fill it up with the usual BS about Yankee Pride & Tradition. Like this wonderful story I heard the other day on a PBS rerun of a Mickey Mantle doc. The Mik seemed to harbor only good feelings towards the late Billy Martin, a guy whose psychopathology gave Ty Cobb a run for the flag. Mantle tried to arrange a hunting trip on a friend's land in Texas, because Martin had a new gun he wanted to break in. Mantle left Billy in the car while he went up to the house to get an OK from the owner. No problem, but he did ask one favor. Could Mickey spare him some pain by shooting an old horse, which he didn't have the heart to put down? Mickey wasn't keen on it, but acquiesced, under the circumstances. I guess he felt bad, but quickly recognized the potential for a joke. He went back to the car with an angry expression, and told Martin that the fellow had denied them access, and he was so mad that he was going to shoot the guy's horse. Billy supposedly tried to dissuade him (if only to keep out of trouble), but Mickey grabbed his gun, stalked off, and shot the horse. Then he heard more shots. He turned around to see Martin with a smoking gun. "I got three of his cows, too!"
Our heroes. Long may they wave.
