San Jose had crystal clear skies for the eclipse. Although we had up to 87% eclipse in this part of the country, I didn't remember to look for it until the moon was only 30% eclipsed. I watched the shadow move across the moon through my compact binoculars, which have magnification similar to Galileo's 1609 telescope. It's amazing how a little magnification turns the flat disk of the moon into a rocky ball in the sky.
