Touchbackdown! -- and offensive pass interference, which negates the "catch".

here was the image of the night, one ref calling it an interception and the other calling it a touchdown. when you see it in realtime, the black ref was in the back of the endzone and had a better angle on the play. it seems like they were afraid to overturn it after seeing it via replay or there was just enough inconclusive evidence to stick with the call.

for those not aware, the regular nfl refs have been locked out due to labor negotiations, and these are basically division 3 football refs. with each passing week their incompetence grows but the nfl commissioner and one assumes the owners dont want to give in to a union so as not to set a precedent. the nfl players union is the weakest in pro sports ive been lead to believe.

and not to be overlooked is the gambling angle.

"The call on the field stands." Um ... which one?

well #43 in the yellow hat clearly caught the ball. the other guy is just trying to wrench it from his hands, is that allowed?

who are you, my mother?

theyve spent the last 24 hours on espn debating just such questions. what is considered "possession" of the ball is a nebulous thing but it is certainly legal to wrench it. it seems pretty obvious to anyone that the man with the yellow hat was in possession of the ball when the play is over and whistled dead but there was just enough doubt for the officials to not overturn the call when they reviewed it.

The debates I've seen ignore the blatant offensive pass interference.

Tate (81 Seahawks) does a two handed shove on 37 Packers while the ball is in the air. Doesn't matter if he "caught" it. Two blown calls in one.

hail mary offensive pass interference

Here's the video from another angle.

the pass interference was brought up numerous times during the telecast but that penalty cannot be called after the fact by review so it has gotten less attention. it did not go unnoticed or uncommented upon though.

ah, hilarious. same team gets a terrible blown call by the real refs today and though its painfully obvious nothing can be done to reverse it because the coach wasted all his challenges. im not sure who should be laughing hardest. who is the reigning trickster god? call him when he finishes laughing at the american ryders cup team.
