"Soon after the election, the Administration began corralling the big liberal DC interest groups into a variety of organizations and communication networks through which they telegraphed their wishes -- into a virtual veal pen. The 8:45 am morning call co-hosted by the "liberal" Center for American Progress, Unity 09, and Common Purpose are just a few of the overt ways that the White House controls its left flank and maintains discipline."

Interesting post. I wish we had this kind of creativity in naming ("liberal veal pen") to come up with something better than "health care reform" or "the public option." (Digby recently complained about the blandness of those terms.)

When DNC called to extract money from me, I told the guy they lacked an elevator pitch. One needs more than that, but if you can't get past that, the conversation's over. The wingnuts have their anti-pitch distilled into just a few words "fascist government takeover of healthcare", although the "fascist" is usually silent.

"Right to good health" would drive the wingers crazy.

The neolibs also lost a battle when they started calling Social Security, etc "entitlements." That has a negative ring too--as in "my lazy but highly special self is entitled to your hard earned tax money."
