went to see killers of the flower moon yesterday afternoon since i had to be in midtown and am now aware of the amcs early discount price. i caught only the slighest whiff of opinions about it going in but it was enough in retrospect to realize the irony, intentional or not, that a story about native americans being systemically abused by white americans focused the preponderance of attention on dicaprio and deniro. guess scorcese cant quit gangsters though he seems to have moved past portrayals of them as homicidal lovable rogues.

This is the general consensus among other friends who have seen it.

yeah, im usually in the camp of tell the story you want to tell rather than pander but it feels like scorsese imagined he was being more profound and woke than he actually ended up being. either that or he just found those characters more compelling. thought it was interesting that the book it was based on seems to talk about this case as foundational for hoover and the precursor to the fbi but even their presence is underplayed. flashed in my mind to there will be blood while watching it which was more gripping. this felt like another scorsese film where the editor needed an editor.
