seems like a fair evaluation. it was a clever premise, well realized with an embedded social commentary that resonates with critics. the narrative around the movies unlikely success by an intelligent well-liked first time african american writer/director made it "an important movie."  

and yes, most movies are just ok. its the movie industrys job to make you feel otherwise.
