The critics are pretty divided about it. Matt Zoller Seitz raves in the New York Press, and Jim Hoberman in the Voice still condemns the last 40 minutes but doesn't pan the new version. David Edelstein in Slate excoriates it so eloquently he makes me question my own limited thumb-up: "The restored footage, nearly an hour of it, has at once bloated and diluted the work we've known and half-loved, undercutting its still-astonishing strengths while making its flaws leap out with unprecedented clarity."
