I loved the 60s version as a kid. Haven't seen the 80's version. The books are great.
Wikipedia describes creator Osamu Tezuka as the Japanese equivalent of Walt Disney. I guess in terms of output that may be true but I find Tezuka's stories and themes more interesting and morally complex.
I'll be letting Lucy read the books by the time she's able to.
