we just shot a movie with the arri alexa and spent 30K to get through the edit. we had a crew of 14 people and most of them were paid. by contrast, four years ago my friend shot a movie which also cost 30k, but it was shot on 16mm, with a crew of 5, all of whom worked for free.
we had lots of interior shots with the actor back lit by large, picture windows. this is normally a challenging situation for digital. the camera can handle very high contrast situations, so we didn't need to do a lot of fill with lights.
