just watched the first episode of broadchurch which is a season long murder mystery in the vein of the killing or top of the lake. certainly compelling enough to keep watching and the reviews seem to echo that. its about to run on bbc america but has already aired in britain. so....

hot off the wires... fox is adapting the show for 2014-15 season. cant wait to say that it pales in comparison with the original but end up watching it anyway.

  • it pales in comparison to the original. might end up watching it anyway though the reviews are generally unfavorable. they did the bizarre thing and cast the same british actor, david tennant, in the lead role but in this case playing an american. not only is he on this series but he has returned for a second season of the british version. kind of takes me out of it from the get go, that and that despite claiming this would have an alternate ending, the beginning seems eerily similar but less interesting.

ill give it a b+. the problem with murder mysteries is that they are ultimately formulaic requiring lots of misdirection before the culprit is revealed. i guess the quality comes from how well this is accomplished without having too much suspension of disbelief, or the characters have to be really compelling.

Late to the party but we just binged through 3 seasons of the British version and liked it a lot.
