Interesting indeed. Unfortunately I have nothing intelligent to add to it. But since you asked for it, I would like to call you a commie.
Ugly is good but not always art. Spooky is better.

I prefer spooky too. Although the two often overlap. Yesterday somebody told me "if you can't be cool, be beautiful." My grandmother's stationary says: "Be pretty if you can, be witty if you must."
My Dad said, "Be good, my child, be good. If you can't be good, be clever." No mention of pulchritude at all.
