kind of reminds me of my cat roonie trying to mate with my winter 'rabbit hat'...before i got him fixed (the cat).
Now i know this has nothing to do the 'rabbit-hat' thing but i really need to vent...I luv this blog and check it almost every day...feel's like a shoulder i could cry on...Anyways, can you believe i got a $50 jay-walking ticket the other day? Jay-walking? In Toronto? Like what the fuc...? So if I'm having coffee at the Shanghai Cowgirl and i wanna run over to Suspect and pic up a little vid...does that really mean i have to walk up to Bathurst, wait for the light, and then walk back the way i came??? Oh city living....

Holy hell! Well that's one way of generating a TON of cash. Who uses crosswalks other than the wounded or generally slow moving? Ok, well maybe on a few streets...like say...University....rather than Froggering your way to safety. But really!

And this gif makes me feel funny.

Jumpy fur and jaywalking always go together in my mind! Kelly M - that's frickin' awful. I heard they were starting to ticket for this and I've been waiting for it to happen to someone I know. It's SO insulting. We're grown ups for gawd's sake. First you impose a street full of cars between me and where I need to go, then you fine me for trying to get across. I would recommend fighting the ticket. Or at least plead "guilty with an explanation" - it should get some $$ taken off but more importantly the system should not just get to pass this demeaning crap off on us pedestrians without a little effort. A lot of cyclists fight their tickets and it's a pretty straightforward process and almost always ends in a reduction of the fine.

PS - thanks for the nice wrds re: blog. Those of you who don't know KM's samplesize, should.

hey kelly,

that really sux hard about the ticket. i too hope you are going to
challenge it. at a recent arc (advocacy for the respect for
cyclists) meeting, a member of the pedestrian networking group
was in attendance. she said they are going to challenge
the cops ability to slap a 50 fine for jaywalking. until
just recently jaywalking was an $8 fine and the pedestrian
network doesn't think that the cops went through the proper
procedures to have increased the charge. there has been
some articles in the g&m (mid to late dec, i think) about this
issue.

and I too love your blog, sally mckay. it has become a regular
stop. xo

Kelly,

You got ripped off and you should fight the ticket.
Turns out the fine is still $8!!!
City council has yet to approve this increase which they have not. However, the cops spurned on by Fantino have been issuing tickets premature with the new fine. Other who have received the fine. There are pedestrain advocates who are already fighting this bogus ticket. Local pedestrian activists Rhona and Janice are already on the case about this.
Did you pay the ticket?
And yes, I am guilty of not checking out your site ... yet.
