olivia chowIf you are reading this blog, and you live in my neighbourhood you are probably already going to vote for Olivia Chow. The reason is she's super cool (pro cities, bikes, transit, kids, old people, education. All the stuff that seems obvious...). Plus, the NDP don't suck. I hate that so-called strategic bullshit where people lay big trips on each other to vote for crappy lame candidates when there's somebody really good on the ballot. And Olivia can maybe beat the liberal (Ianno...yawn) in our riding. By the way, did you know she went to OCA? Art vote! Art vote!

Or if you're in the Parkdale / High Park riding, there's Peggy Nash, who's very capable of beating Sarmite Bulte (only lost by 3500 votes last time). If you need more reason, Bulte (a likely candidate for Heritage Minister) has been receiving serious criticism for her campaign contributions from Canadian and American entertainment industries. Michael Geist and Boing Boing have been covering this lately.

In regards to Bulte and her new patrons: Cry me a river, CRIA. That organization has reaped the financial benefits of every blank CD-Rom I have purchased. For every project I have worked on, every CD I have burnt, every CD my employers have burnt, for literally thousands of CD's in my game programming career. (I fuck up a lot), they have collected a substantial tax, even though it was all my or my employer's intellectual property.

This levy turned around and bit them in the ass when the peer to peer networks became a threat. The courts rightfully decided that Canadians had been paying for this stuff all along, as it has been acknowledged that recordable mediums had been taxed for this purpose.

One interesting twist of law that was decided lately is that iPods are now exempt from this tax, making the transfer of our own music CD's to this type of device totally illegal.

I didn't know Olivia went to OCA! But she came campaigning to my door the other day and gave me a really nice New Years card (cartoon drawings of her and Jack in fluorescent orange and black) so I should have suspected as much.

yeah she totally rules. i met her on the campain trail the day i was moving out of her riding. i was walking down palmerston st. when i saw her and we had a little chat that had nothing to do with politics. i told olivia that i was moving out soon and she mentioned the advance polls. so 2 hours before i left town i voted for her. the card was the tops
