images festival

The Images Festival is on now. The program is here. Note: Peggy Anne Berton's excellent film is showing on the 22nd! Also note Deirdre Logue opening tonight at Paul Petro. Tomorrow I'm conducting a marathon gallery tour of the "off screen" projects, meaning stuff that's in galleries rather than in the theatre. Here's the blurb:

Dammit. I feel so guilty. The Sherpa guides you hired were a no-show because I got them all piss drunk the night before. Did everyone make it to the summit of MOCCA?

more than 60 people showed up for the tour! we had less at the end, but still a respectable number. And we were only 10 minutes behind schedule by the time we reached MOCCA. Christina Battle made arrangements with a lot of the artists and so we were priviledged with intimate presentations by Mieke Bal, Michael Campbell, Laiwan, Alison Chun Ya, Annika Larsson, Tony Cokes, Brian Joseph Davis, Deirdre Logue and John Oswald. And though Chris Curreri and J.R. Carpenter didn't do a talks, they were present to meet people and answer questions. Shannon Cochrane made an excellent little flag for me, and we just charged along from space to space. A lot of people on the tour had not been to 401 Richmond before, so it was a real introduction to the galleries as well as the artists. For those who were more familiar with the venues, there were some other perks like getting to hear Andy Paterson sing "Yesterday" for Brian Joseph Davis, and meeting the artists from out of town. The downside was that we did not have time for much group discussion, and some of the work didn't get enough attention, cause we were cruising pretty fast. Fun day.

note: there is audio by the artists available online here.
Also, Deirdre Logue's piece has a really excellent web component.
