I knew it!

"Now, having been passed by motorists over 2,500 times and hit twice,"

Ummm, helmet or no, dude should probably not be riding a bike at that rate.

"...wearing a wig designed to make him appear female was enough to gain an added 14 cm of space."

This works at art openings, too.

Its true. he thinks the wig proves drivers give women more room. But I'm thinking it proves drivers give guys wearing wigs more room. That said...I think I get more space on my wobbly-3-speed-with-basket-bike than I do on my hybrid-with-handlebar-extensions-bike. (When I want more extra room I stick out my knee.) And I know I take more risks when I am wearing a helmet and riding my better bike. Of course I can spout off as much anecdotal stuff as I want, but this guy, nerd that he is, actually did the experiment!

wig_1 wig_2

Rob, you just don't do yourself any social favours when you wear these wigs to openings.

You get the whole lane when you go "pants optional".

I prefer it when cars come near me. It hurts my feelings when one dramatically swerves all the way into the opposite lane to avoid me. Not "running over" near, just...normal distance. (Helmet, pants, non-wig wearer.)
