What do you like better...background dependence, or background independence?

So, Sal, you now desperately regretting skipping over parts like this:

"The correlation function W(x,y) ~ |x-y|^-2h. is clearly not diffeomorphism invariant."

no regrets

HA! God blesses those who cram. This takes me back to high school when I'd somehow accidentally stumble on the things I need to know. (Actually this takes me back 15 seconds since I'm still finding out what I need to know by accident.)

Think diffeo.

Okay. Here's the problem I have solve this afternoon. How do I draw a static diagram of a set of relationships between objects with no background? The before/after solution (with grid first, then with white space where the grid used to be) on the website I linked to above is probably what I will have to do, but ....is there another way? Figures and no ground. arg. (this is actually the fun part of being a dork-artist)

No background? easy peasy.

Dang. I needed that this afternoon. Will post some of the other versions that people came up with very soon.

To answer the original question, Sal, I prefer background independence.
