books

The International Festival of Authors opens on October 17 at Harbourfront. My video, English, updated as usual, will be projected on an 8' by 8' wall for the 10 days of the festival. (2,522 titles as of this week).

(I'm sure that Margaret Atwood & Alice Munro worked very hard on all those books that I just chewed up and spit out onto a screen for two seconds each.)

I won't be at the gala opening because its the same night that ETHEL AND THE MERMEN are playing at the Smiling Buddha on 961 College st. at 10:30 pm. (and also, I forgot to ask for comps to the big party with Maggie and Ian before the damn thing sold out, because then I could have brought Ethel and the Mermen with me as arm candy)

Mmmm, arm candy.

I'd sure like to see that wall of book covers flashing by. You got any paramaters? Do you have to own them?
- M.Jean 10-23-2007 8:09 pm

The only parametres were that I had to have read them. So I've been able to raid other people's libraries for the past six years.

The speed of the GIF above is deceptive. Each one actually stays on the screen for 2 seconds, enough time to identify it but not enough time to think about it before the next one grabs your attention. It's like TV timing is imposed on the time we associate with reading and so the viewer/reader is constantly stumbling over themselves when watching the piece.

Thanks!

I've got a copy of Kluthe's Advice to the Ruptured that I'm sure you'll want to borrow and add. The second half of it is testimonials for the apparently very effective truss.

I'm really disappointed to see the correct spelling of "parametres." Reduces to word to mere measurement. (Well, actually it's "parameters," but same diff.)
- M.Jean 10-24-2007 2:10 am

American dictionaries spell it parameters. I always thought that parametres was the Brit spelling, but it may be the French spelling.

..and perhaps I'm so damn international.

I'm going to go with that one. (which, in my case, is "going nowhere fast" but same diff.)

My concise oed has it "ers." What's going on? Are all standards going down the sink-hole?
- M.Jean 10-24-2007 2:52 am

Are you sure that I'm the right person to commiserate with over a lack of standards? Lack Of Standards is my middle name, and it's much prettier than Typo, which is what my father wanted to call me.

(I wonder how Anthony Easton spells it.)

I just popped down to Harbourfront today to pick up my artist fee (because I'm only into this art thing for the money) and cringe at how bad a video can look projected in a lit room, but now I am totally chuffed because I gave them a PAL version (rather than NTSC) and they used a spanking new 4000 lumens projector (I think the technical term is 4000 motherfucking lumens) It looks unbelievably fantastic. Patrick Macaulay did tell me this last week, but I assumed he was just lying to shut me up.

- L.M. 10-27-2007 2:33 am

Actually, the technical term is 4 motherfucking thousand lumens.
