From the CBC:
"I've never seen the leader of a Conservative party, certainly not Bob Stanfield, certainly not Joe Clark, lie — I choose the word deliberately — the way Mr. Harper has," Broadbent said.

The former NDP leader, who helped negotiate Monday's deal between the New Democrats and the Liberals with the support of the Bloc Québécois, said Harper also lied when he said the three opposition leaders refused to sign their agreement in front of a Canadian flag because Gilles Duceppe, a Quebec sovereigntist, objected.

In fact, there were at least two flags present at Monday's signing ceremony, as well as a painting of the Fathers of Confederation.

From MACLEANS:

"Again, a few moments ago, Prime Minister Stephen Harper lashed out at Stéphane Dion in QP for somehow failing to give the maple leaf pride of place at the Liberal/NDP/Bloc coalition’s Monday evening signing ceremony. Our flag was, of course, on display, as the photographic record proves, but Harper now says it was “off to the side.” (Shame!)
Could someone inform the PMO that the Republicans lost the U.S. elections and the slavish imitations of Rovian rhetoric sound mildly retarded to the rest of us.

digital media tree is now my place to turn to for Canadian politics!

I find it striking that Harper's quotes are the opposite of any form of truth

I checked out the Toronto Sun for a laugh, and found a dead link to a video of Don Cherry opining on a potential coalition government. I WANT TO WATCH THAT! but it doesn't work.

This is sort of odd, according to this Globe report on Harper's speech tonight:

Mr. Harper is expected to meet with Governor-General Michaëlle Jean on Thursday to ask her to prorogue Parliament.

Sources said the most likely course of action is a visit to Ms. Jean's Rideau Hall residence in the morning, but they cautioned that a meeting was not yet booked and that it could be delayed.
Delayed for what?

Perhaps a clue is here at the end of this Globe question forum with constitutional expert Bob Beal who was asked how he would advise the GG:

I would not presume to tell Her Excellency what she should do. She will make her decision, and it will be a good one. However, I do think that simply refusing prorogation is the option that carries with it the most minimal Crown interference in the affairs of the elected representatives of the people. And I do think it is irresponsible for a prime minister to place a governor-general in this situation. There is no need, except in a narrow political context.
Harper will be hearing the same thing from his lawyers. (and perhaps wondering how he'll convince the Queen that he should be able to replace the first black female G.G. in Canada, before he's even had a meeting with Jean to discuss this issue)

Yup, we have a queen's rep AND a queen. (well she's totally convinced you and me and everyone else that she's the queen. Amazing when you think about it.)
