dolly is fantastic, of course, for all sorts of reasons, but i think the reason why i love her the most is that she has no qualms about excessive sentiment. she has no shame about melodrama, cheap tunes, manipulative emotions or the like and she does all of the above so well.

Many years ago John Oswald gave a lecture at OCA where he played some Dolly Parton vinyl 45's at 33rpm: "They sound better this way".
