Ian Thomas is the brother of comedian Dave Thomas, as implied in the Strange Brew link. Their father was a philosophy professor.
Dave mentions his brother several times in his memoir: SCTV: Behind the Scenes. Ian provided Dave with career advice and encouragement.
Ian's music career was interesting. His biggest hit was his first single, Painted Ladies (which often can be heard in playing on the PA in LCBO outlets). But after that, his record company seemed to be challenged marketing his style of complex subtle pop music.
(Loosely related obscure trivia: in the movie version of Strange Brew, Max Von Sydow plays a very rare McClavier Synthesizer keyboard).
