One of my favourite movies ever: The Syrian Bride . A big Wedding gown and fucked up border crossings in occupied territories. My kind of chick flick.

I think the Middle East makes the best dance music these days.

The man in the suave blazer whispering in Omar's ear is the "poet" who accepts requests from the audience to improvise verses which acknowledge family members by name.

Nice interview on The Quietus.

Quote:
Have people ever been offended by what you have said?
"We'd never say anything that's not nice."
As well as weddings, what other parties do you play?
"We do family functions, in halls like this with tables. We play Christian parties, Kurdish parties, Assyrian parties, we might just do half an hour or 40 minutes. There might be a guest from America or Canada, and they'll ask for Omar to come and play."
