I still can't get over how threatening the alleged use of lenses is to the cult of the artist's (genius) eye. Lens? Eyeball? Who cares? Fuddy duddy art historians and little old ladies in art appreciation societies.

  • From an MSNBC review of this--nudge, nudge--art
movie: "Griet [Scarlett Johanson] soon catches the eye
of Vermeer, who appreciates the adolescent girl's
awareness of the delicacies of shade, composition and
light. Before long, the painter is showing Griet his new
toy, a camera obscura, while promoting her from maid to
artist's model for his famous painting."
