2CC

i have a little bit of a dilemma with architectural preservation. one one hand you like great buildings preserved and on the other hand if an owner wants to make changes to their own property...

In the case of 2cc, the building was vilified from the start. i do like it though despite the obvious. i was in a group show there once. the tenth anniversary show for abc no rio. I put in a pretty bad piece. i think a find from the blanket salesmen on astor place. it was a budweiser bar light. two pheasants m&f under an oval plexiglass dome. I pulled off the logos and filled the back lit bow tie shaped void with red cellophane. i genericized it. it was durring my genericized sign phase.

Just as Cloepfil is genericizing 2CC...

Off topic, the Newport Pancake House sign is a goner, and there is a "now hiring" sign on the still-unbranded exterior of the new building. I smell a franchise moving in. Applebee's?

I never was in the space, until after it was 'abandoned'. And to be in a show there....cool.
It is interesting to compare the voice and opinion (little of it) in this piece to what we can imagine Herbert M. having written.
So we are going back to the white cube - this time in order to wipe clean the emotional connections to the building. Too bad.

they're neutering it so it wont spawn more of its undesirable kind. i liked the modernist diversification.

Self-correction to off-topic comment: instead of franchise I meant "mansard-roofed salt and fat dispenser."
