richard prince check paintings
This is all the press release says. Sort of like Lily Tomlin's old routine about Bell Telephone (back when it was an absolute monopoly): "We're the Phone Company. We don't have to."
RICHARD PRINCE : Check Paintings
Feb 25 - Apr 9, 2005
Opening reception for the artist: Thursday, February 24th 6 – 8pm
Gagosian Gallery is pleased to announce a major exhibition of new paintings by Richard Prince, one of the most influential artists working today.
A fully illustrated catalogue with essays by Bruce Wagner and John McWhinnie will accompany the exhibition.
FWIW, on those rolls out in my hallway are a couple of large paper grid pieces consisting entirely of my cancelled checks. I'm betting other artists have used checks for art material. I didn't commodify mine by gluing them to canvas, though. They're just huge paper quilts.
